Rust repairs by Arfer!
Today's work still painting brackets and other parts of the engine bay and bumper area. Yes that title is a knock at whoever did the front chassis rail repair on my sport. It looks good and solid on the outside where everything bolts to the front chassis legs. But, big but, having removed the bumper to respray and also the bumper crash rubber thing I also decided to take off the small outer front cross member bits to paint them which turns out to be a good idea as they had no colour or rust protector on them. Now realising I could look at the inside of the front chassis rails I discovered the job that was done by some chap who must have been called Arthur; Arfer - Half-a-job (ar-fer-job)" as the rusty part of the old chassis rail had NOT been cut out just covered over with the repair part. Check out picture one of the outside (painted by me recently) then picture two of the inside, I cleaned the inside as best as possible then Hammerite sprayed Under Body Seal into the inside the repair off and do it again. Why people take short cuts on rust repairs beats me.
Monday 19th August: had this lovely 1960 Triumph TR4A in for Super Unleaded, notice the straps holding the rear window in fitted when it was racing to stop that rear window popping out at speed on the racetrack.
